klu-1-e1465545369844J. Offenbach “The Key on the Roadway or the Wedding Night Adventures”

The heroes and heroines of the operettas by Jacques Offenbach are drinking wine in full view of the public, singing hymns to the truffles in champagne, joking, wearing seductive clothing, allowing themselves light indecencies. Some want to fly to the moon in order to get rid of boring daily routine, others strive for the hell, because it’s fun… A family man Jacques Offenbach in the opera bouffe “The Key on the Roadway or the Wedding Night Adventures laughs at deceived men and sings women of pleasure.

So, what can we forgive a woman for? And can we trust her, even if the bride is spending her marriage night with another man in a locked room?! The topic of love triangles, lovers in the closet, women’s logic and the limits of male patience has always sparked interest in the public. Especially now when the play is going in the cosy lobby of the theatre, spectators are sitting at the candle-lit tables with a glass of champagne and candies and watching over an action unfolding at arm’s end…
