At the masquerade, arranged by Prince Orlovskyi, Henry Eisenstein, the confirmed “Don Juan”, meets a beautiful woman in the bat costume and falls in love with her. He is doing his best in order to seduce the beauty, having no idea that the charming stranger wearing a mask is his own wife Rosalind. Offended and puzzled, she stays unrecognizable and decides to teach her unfaithful husband…
The operetta “The Bat” was written by Johann Strauss in one breath during 42 days only. With the same speed the performance won the favour of the capital’s public, and today it is one of the most popular operettas in the National Operetta repertoire.
